Belay Technologies is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator (SA). The SA provides support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems. The SA manages IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems. The SA provides support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc. The SA provides Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems. The SA provides support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers. The SA provides support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process. The SA configures and manages UNIX and Windows operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoots, maintains integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance. The selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring test infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, and for ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. The environment includes Microsoft-based servers, databases, and workstations as well as VMware and Linux server instances and an extensive network infrastructure (LAN and WAN). The candidate will also manage and maintain system backups and instances as well as explore opportunities to automate and optimize the systems.

 

Candidates should have the following qualifications: 

  • TS/SCI with polygraph is required.        
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional SA experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience as a SA in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Must have at least 6 years of experience with Linux server administration (RHEL and/or CentOS) in an enterprise environment (including both hardware installs and virtual machines).
  • Will need to be available to respond to system administration and maintenance problems while off duty, on an on-call basis.
  • At least 7 years of experience providing support for users and systems in Information Technology and/or information security environments.
  • At least 2 years of experience with network switches, routers, and firewalls from Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise vendors.
  • Must have experience in or familiarity with the following systems: Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, VSphere and Vsphere architecture, VCenter
  • Must have experience deploying VCenter instances and virtual machines.
  • Must have experience with VDI architecture and environments.
  • Must have experience managing YUM repository.
  • Must have a solid understanding of advanced security protocols and standards, and information security principles and practices.
  • Must have in-depth experience with software and security architectures.
  • Must have experience helping users, optimizing system operations, and monitoring IT enterprise systems.
  • Must possess strong analytic abilities and must be meticulous and careful in their work.
  • Must be an independent thinker capable of working proficiently independently as well as within a team.
  • Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
  • Must be able to support planned after hours’ activities on occasion.
  • May be asked to perform short duration travel to non-hostile locations for tasks such as system upgrades and installs.

Candidates are required to have the following skills:

  • Monitoring test infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, and for ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Manage and maintain system backups and instances as well as explore opportunities to automate and optimize the systems.
  • Maintaining a complex server-based enclave, including mitigation from performing system scans, vulnerability management activities, and active directory configuration.
  • Planning and implementing IT enhancements and undertaking project work.
  • Identifying and correcting hardware and software issues.
  • Providing timely and professional support in response to calls and emails.
  • Participating in the creation and ongoing maintenance of documentation ensuring that clear, concise, and accurate information is readily available to assist with incident resolution.
  • Providing technical assistance to companion work groups in support of overlapping projects and maintaining good inter-departmental relations.
  • Communicating with users and publishing status of any system outages, as needed.
  • Executing the process for managing information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and system security scanning for equipment suites in accordance with the System Security Plans for these systems in order to rapidly and accurately identify and remediate IAVAs.
  • Initiating IAVA responses and system security scans, completing remediation, extending IAVA patches and security updates to designated sites, and executing monthly security scans.
  • Responding to system administration and maintenance problems while off duty, on an on-call basis.
  • The Level 3 System Administrator shall possess the following capabilities: 
    • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems
    • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems
    • Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems
    • Provide assistance to users in accessing and using IT systems
    • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems
    • Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
    • Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
    • Optimize system operations and resource utilization, and perform system capacity analysis and planning
    • Provide in-depth experience in trouble-shooting IT systems
    • Provide detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers for escalated tickets
    • Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process
    • Configure and manage UNIX and Windows (or other applicable) operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoot, maintain integrity of and configure network components, along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance
    • Support the design of systems, mission architecture and associated hardware
    • Possess a working knowledge and understanding of system administration interdependencies as part of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
    • Analyze and resolve complex problems associated with server hardware, applications and software integration.

Candidates are desired to have the following skills:

  • Experience documenting and providing information for security accreditation and certification.
  • Experience with Network Security Technologies (e.g. Multiple Domain, PKI, SSP, Vulnerability Assessment).
  • Experience with High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor (HAIPE) devices for In-line Network Encryption.
  • Experience with a variety of switches, firewalls, and network load balancers in an enterprise network environment.
  • Experience in a System Administration role supporting a software configuration management and development environment.
